Preparations before the surgery

The attending doctor will arrange a detailed physical examination which includes blood tests, biochemical tests, electrocardiogram and chest X-ray.
Vocal cord examination may be required for patients with previous thyroid surgery or coarse voice.
Doctors will explain to patients in detail, the surgical approach, extent, operating time and potential complications before confirming the time for operation.
 
6 to 8 hours before the surgery:
1. Start to fast 6 to 8 hours before the surgery
   
On the day of surgery:
1. Medical staff will conduct another physical examination on the day of surgery
2. An anaesthetist will explain to the patient the anesthesia method and related risks
3. Patients are to fill in a consent form on receiving surgery and anesthesia
4. Relax and prepare yourself to accept the surgery
